Democrats Ask Elon To Explain China's Role In Twitter

Three Democratic lawmakers has sought an explanation from Elon Musk on China's role in Twitter during recent protests in China.

In a letter to Twitter CEO, the three Representatives Raja Krishnamoorthi, Adam Schiff and Jackie Speier wrote that they have deep concern about the recent spam campaign that drowned out tweets about the protests.

The lawmakers have sought information about Twitter manipulation campaign that restricted access to news about the recent protests in China.

They found many Chinese accounts began spamming Twitter with links from escort services to other offerings in the wake of anti-Covid measure protests in China.

Whether Twitter had any indication that the obstruction of access to Tweets about the protests-led by Beijing in China, they asked in his letter to Twitter CEO.

They have also asked whether any state actors have sought to deliberately suppress access to information through bots or other manipulative tactics.

The lawmakers have also addressed recent changes at Twitter under Musk’s leadership.
